This is a design I've titled "Hyperion." My ladyslipper headstock, as seen on the Orpheus, was designed while drawing up this guitar. The 2 1/8" thick, chambered body
is almost finished with shaping and on its way toward pickup cavity routing.
After setting the neck, I carved away a good deal of the heel... to the point of this guitar not having a heel to speak of, very similar to what I did on the Orpheus mentioned above.
After this, I've sanded it completely to 400 grit and have just applied the first coats of Tru-oil.
The guitar is fully finished in these photos, ready for final assembly and set-up. The pickup cavities are routed for Kent Armstrong humbuckers, but can easily be altered to fit deeper pickups like Seymour Duncans and such. I like to hardmount the pickups directly to the body, although it has its advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that the cavities have to be accurately routed for depth, which can be a problem if the owner decides to change pickups. In that case, I would heartily recommend routing a cavity deep enough to accommodate any option and attach the pickups to the covers or bezels.
