As many of you know, some of the guitars I build are "spec" instruments - that is - guitars that aren't commissioned by a client. They're almost always ideas that develop while I'm working on commissioned projects and this is no exception. These guitars allow me to try things out or take risks on my own dime so clients don't have to.
This guitar is finished for all intents and purposes - ready for final assembly and set up, giving you the unique opportunity to select specific pickups, switching, hardware, and string gauge that you prefer as if you'd commissioned the piece. Of course, since the instrument is fully constructed and finished, there's no waiting in line for a full custom. (The price is listed down below the specifications and doesn't include the costs of hardware and electronics.)
It began with a Special Kay body shape that I proceeded to alter directly to arrive at the design you see above. The two photos that follow show the body in an early stage. The top and back are both hollowed like a clam shell to produce a true semi-hollow instrument. Such hollowing yields a more responsive guitar, as well as a much lighter instrument. In this case, the finished guitar weighs only 4 lbs. and 5 oz. without hardware or electronics!

There are a lot of photos here, but I wanted to make sure you got the sense of the instrument. My contours aren't as simple as routing the body edges with a roundover bit or gluing a completely carved neck heel into a pocket.

The body is truly semi-hollow. Even though the control cover I've designed is one of my sleek, medium-sized ones, there's a lot of room in there for some fun switching.
